Reload Worksheets
The Graph Tools | Worksheet | Reload command is used to apply changes to graphs, plots, and linked text when changes to the data are made in programs other than Grapher. For example, if you have a data file open in Excel and make and save changes to the data file, you can use the Graph Tools | Worksheet | Reload command to display the changes in the plot document.
-
The Graph Tools | Worksheet | Reload command updates the data in your document by reloading it from the original source files.
-
For example, if your plot document is connected to data from five different sheets across two separate XLSX files, and you edit and save changes in just one of those sheets, the Reload command will reload the data from all five sheets connected to the plot.
To show changes in a graph when data is edited in another program:
- Make changes to the data in a program other than Grapher.
- Save the changes in the other program. If you do not save the changes, they will not appear in the graph.
- Click the Graph Tools | Worksheet | Reload command.
If you are editing your data in the Grapher worksheet, use Auto Track Worksheets, not Reload. If you make changes in the Grapher worksheet and do not save the changes, using the Graphs | Worksheet | Reload command removes the data changes.
Use with Files Types
Grapher .GRF Files
The Graph Tools | Worksheet | Reload command allows you to incorporate changes made to your data in other programs into your graphs, plots, and linked text. For instance, if you modify and save a data file in Excel, you can use the Reload command to see those changes reflected in your plot document. This functionality is particularly beneficial when working with Grapher .GRF files, which store graph specifications and maintain a link to external data sources. This setup requires sharing the data files with the .GRF file for complete graph reproduction and enables automatic updates when the data is changed.
Grapher .GPJ Project Files
Grapher .GPJ files store everything needed to recreate the graph, including the data itself. To share a graph, you only need to send the .GPJ file since all graph settings are saved in the file. Even though they contain embedded data, if Grapher can locate the original data file used to create the GPJ, it will use that file when the Reload command is executed.
